’We recognise this will be a difficult time for affected colleagues and our immediate priority is to support those impacted colleagues, including exploring redeployment opportunities wherever possible,’ says chief executive

Insurer Admiral is set to cut hundreds of jobs from its UK insurance business as part of a wider transformation programme linked to its previously announced £100m cost-saving target.

The insurer said the plans relate solely to its UK insurance operations and form part of the efficiency programme unveiled alongside its full year 2025 results in March.

The proposals could result in around 500 role reductions, affecting approximately 5% of the UK insurance workforce. Around 95% of colleagues would be unaffected.

Admiral stressed that the changes are not being driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and said the programme is focused on creating a simpler, faster and more effective business that improves customer experience while supporting future growth.

Admiral UK insurance chief executive Alistair Hargreaves said: “We are making changes to Admiral’s UK insurance business to ensure we have the right structure, skills and ways of working to meet evolving customer needs. These changes are aimed at making us faster and more efficient so we can continue to deliver great customer outcomes.

“Unfortunately, these proposed changes could result in a number of role reductions if implemented.”

Support package

Admiral said comprehensive support measures are being made available to colleagues whose roles may be affected.

The package includes career transition services, retraining opportunities and financial assistance for employees pursuing new career paths.

Staff interested in launching their own business will be able to access grants of up to £10,000 alongside mentoring from senior leaders. Employees seeking professional qualifications, accredited training or further education can apply for support of up to £5,000.

The insurer is also offering some colleagues the opportunity to work part time for up to 12 months while undertaking approved retraining programmes.

In addition, Admiral has partnered with employment support specialist LHH to provide career coaching, CV preparation, interview guidance, networking support and job search assistance.

Hargreaves said: ”We recognise this will be a difficult time for affected colleagues and our immediate priority is to support those impacted colleagues, including exploring redeployment opportunities wherever possible.

”Alongside enhanced redundancy terms, we are also making a significant investment in meaningful support to help colleagues consider future options.”
