’We’ve looked closely at where the pressures really bite and shaped the cover around them, so it reflects how hotels and restaurants actually operate rather than relying on a generic policy wording,’ says head
Allianz UK has launched a new hotels and restaurants proposition as it looks to expand its presence in the hospitality insurance market.

Building on its established presence in the sector, the insurer said it had introduced cover extensions and support services designed around the pressures hospitality businesses face.
Available through its commercial select policy, the proposition is aimed at UK hospitality businesses with turnover between £10m and £1.5bn.
Target customers include independent restaurants and chains, business and leisure hotels, resorts and conference centres with hotel facilities.
Cover includes property damage, business interruption, employers’ liability and public and products liability.
Rob Carslake, head of commercial combined at Allianz UK, said: “Running a hotel or restaurant has rarely been harder and when something goes wrong the impact is felt immediately, in the kitchen, at the front desk and with guests.
“We’ve looked closely at where the pressures really bite and shaped the cover around them, so it reflects how hotels and restaurants actually operate rather than relying on a generic policy wording.”

Allianz said it had also introduced employee protection covering chefs as essential employees, alongside protection for TRONC schemes used to distribute tips and service charges.

The proposition also includes seasonal stock cover and protection for food spoilage caused by equipment failure.
Loss of licence cover is available where licences are lost for reasons outside a business’s knowledge or control, including wedding and civil ceremony licences used by hotels.
Customers can also access a 20% discount on audits from Serve Legal, covering areas including age verification, allergen compliance and venue readiness for Martyn’s Law.
Allianz said its risk control engineers include specialists with food hygiene qualifications, while its engineering inspection services already support more than 1,000 hospitality customers.
Carslake said: “This isn’t a new sector for us. We have long-standing expertise in hospitality, and broadening our appetite means we can put that to work for more businesses and give brokers more choice for their hotels and restaurants clients.
“But we want to help before something goes wrong, not just after. From local underwriters and specialist engineers to independent compliance checks through Serve Legal, we’re giving brokers and their clients practical support to manage these risks and to recover quickly when they can’t be avoided.”
