The Insurance Times team picked up several accolades at the 2026 Biba Media Awards.

The association’s annual event recognises the role of the media and journalists in increasing the understanding of insurance and insurance broking.
Content director Katie Scott, editor Yiannis Kotoulas, news editor James Cowen, data reporter George McDade, reporter Harriet Scott and ex-senior reporter Harry McNeil (or traitor as we call him) had articles shortlisted across multiple categories.
Scott picked up a highly commended award in the Best Thought Leadership category for her piece on nepotism, questioning if it is inherently bad or an underutilised talent attraction tool?
Kotoulas picked up another highly commended in Best Innovation for his piece on digital ID’s and what it means for the insurance sector, while Cowen secured the same accolade in Best Trade for his article exploring Gap insurance.

Best newcomer
Finally, it was a clean sweep in the Best Newcomer Award, with reporters McDade, Scott and traitor (sorry Harry!) the three journalists making it to the shortlist.
Scott was given a highly commended for her pieces on the implications the Renters Right Act has on pet damage insurance and the importance of influencer insurance.

Is influencer insurance the next must-follow for protecting content creators?
-
Was scratching out required pet damage insurance for landlords from Renters’ Rights Act a missed opportunity?
So, it was between McDade and our former colleague to win the award. And it was traitor (sorry again Harry!) who took home the award for his piece on the cyber risk facing farms.
